5 TRENDS TO TRY

What the fashion set will be sporting this spring

Words by Bridget Barnett

1. UP YOUR ALLEY

The bowling shirt is back, and this boxy, short-sleeve style has already been spotted on the runways of Dries Van Noten, Jacquemus and Prada. Embrace it’s boldness by opting for kitschy prints and bright colour. When it comes to styling, go nineties and double up with a long-sleeve T-shirt underneath.

2. TO DYE FOR

The tie-dye trend has been hanging around in both men’s and women’s fashion arenas for a couple of seasons now, but Spring Summer 2020 has seen it come full circle. Look for paint splatter, screen print and watercolour techniques. As for hues, make like Jacquemus, Balmain and AMIRI with ice cream shades.

3. SEEING STRIPES

The classic pinstripe suit seems to have prepared itself for a heat wave this summer — switching out form-fitting silhouettes for lighter fabrics that hang loose, often with dropped shoulders and wide leg trousers. The luxury take that tops all this season? Dries Van Noten, Uma Wang and Devoa are all in for the win.

4. POCKET ROCKET

This season, the utilitarian jacket is taken to the extreme with pockets in exaggerated sizes. The striking, safari-esque look is also incredibly practical, offering plenty of places for stashing your daily belongings. Affix, HELIOT EMIL and nanamica all make a bid for the strongest player.

5. SET, MATCH

The matching set has a lot to offer — it always looks polished and pulled together, and requires little coordination elsewhere. As for which kind of co-ord to take for a spin this season – anything goes. From the simplistic sets of 3.1 Philip Lim to the wild and wacky prints that make up pairings at Song for the Mute – take your pick.
