Deeply inspired by her West African heritage, Yaya Situation creator - fashion industry veteran Leena Similu - spent her childhood summers with her grandmother Yaya, a midwife, exploring the exotic landscape and mountains of Cameroon. These defining influential moments from this diverse heritage, fused with the infectious enthusiasm and unequivocal joy of living in Los Angeles, have come together in a collection of vessels, pots and wares. A juxtaposition of traditional clay craftsmanship, traditional African masks and non-traditional popular culture, “the intention is to contribute a fresh and invigorating style to the stoneware genre, playing on the boundaries of high and low art,” says Similu.
