The stories of found items are the starting point for Atelier & Repairs pieces. They do not design with a traditional process of pen on paper, but instead apply creative solutions to what an item needs, or is “asking” for.
Founder Maurizio has a 40-year long career in apparel, he started experimenting with transforming vintage military and workwear that he had collected over the years into items that addressed modern needs. It was through this initial journey that he turned a side hobby into a full-fledged operation - now the company has workshops in both London and Los Angeles, with tailors and designers transforming sourced items into new one-of-a-kind pieces every day. Ultimately, the main driver of Atelier & Repairs is the belief that creative thinking and engineering can solve many issues.
Looking forward, Atelier & Repairs aims to further scale what they are doing so that they can have a greater impact on the excess they are coming across. “The beauty of repair is that a simple needle, thread or patch can draw out the embedded value in our clothes, letting them live - stylishly and more personably - for longer,” says Christina Dean, founder of Redress and Co-Founder of R Collective. “Keeping our own clothes working hard for us for longer is one sure way to make the future of fashion more sustainable.”
