FOR THE LOVE OF JEWELLERY

It takes two – and then some(thing)

Words by Olivia Berry

The relationship between jewellery and love is an affair as old as time, from a prehistoric era where donning makeshift amulets was an expression of self-affirmation, to diamond wedding rings being exchanged ceremoniously. This Valentine's Day, Lane Crawford chronicles three of our favourite modern love stories, reimagining them with swoon-worthy pieces from our collection to match.

Taiwanese artist Yoga Lin romanced the world with his love songs for wife Kiki Ting, and if his gifting skills is as finely tuned as his ballads, we surely suspect he’d be eyeing Stephen Webster’s ‘Fly By Night’ black diamond ring. Despite their trials and tribulations, this macabre bat-moth motif carved from gleaming blue quartz crystal haze is a symbol of freedom and growth with its vivid colour and vibrancy.

Zoe Kravitz has been coveting her mother Lisa Bonet’s effortless, bohemian elegance for years, and while her own flair has elevated her to style icon status, we’d imagine it’s also down to an enviable collection of pieces that have been lovingly passed down between generations. Bonet and Kravitz are rarely snapped without statement, jewel-encrusted ear candy, like Repossi’s ‘Berbère’ mini single hoop crafted from 18k rose gold and punctured with round cut white diamonds.

As far as unbreakable bonds go, few love stories measure up to that of Beyoncé and Solange. And while the style-savvy sisters often sit on different ends of the spectrum and have both evolved sartorially over the years, one thing we can agree on is their shared love for boundary-pushing and bold design. If the two were ever to covet matching pieces, at the intersection of Queen Bey’s fearless glamour and Solange’s sophisticated edge is Messika’s ‘Snake Skinny’ white gold cuff, which delicately coils around the wrist to resemble a diamond-studded serpent.
