Find out what Lin Lin loves about China’s capital…
A petite pixie with a larger-than-life personality, Lin Lin is the creative director and youth marketing strategist for creative agency, Jellymon. Having lived in London for more than decade, Lin Lin first landed back in China in Shanghai a few years ago, then headed north to Beijing, where she is now based. “Beijing is a city that makes me feel Chinese,” she says. “Even clichéd spots like the Forbidden City are still the most unforgettable places I’ve ever been to. Chinese history is part of my style because I relate to the period between the late Qing Dynasty and Sun Yat-Sen's Xinhai revolution. This was a time where both Western and Manchurian imperial sensibilities heavily influenced fashion.” Take a tour of Lin Lin’s ’hood…
"I love this park (16 Tuan Jie Hu South, Chaoyang District) so much that I decided to open Jellymon’s Beijing office here. This local park is open to the public and there’s always something happening from early morning till night."
"Every morning, there’s a huge gathering in the park where men and women sing propaganda songs. Some of the younger ladies (by younger, I mean in their early 50s) will wear vintage dresses while reading from their songbooks."
"I love hanging out with old people in the park. Here I am learning Chinese calligraphy!"
"This Lomography-themed café (San Li Tun Village South, Area S1-18, 19 San Li Tun Road, Chaoyang District) serves one the best coffees in Beijing. This was also Jellymon’s first interior design and branding project in Beijing. On any given day, you can find young artists, photographers, designers and writers hanging out here."
"Whenever I get tipsy, I tend to not walk or sit straight. This dress is perfect for these types of occasions. The brilliant cutting makes me look good even when I have bad posture, and its neon colour helps reduce the chances of me being hit by cars."
"I always appreciate suit-wearing young gentlemen!"
"One of the reasons why I love Beijing is because of the incredible, diverse music scene. My favourite monthly night is “Hot Pot”, which mixes a range of music from hip-hop, funky soul, electro, jungle, rock to experimental jazz."
"Love this: Rickshaw robots invented by local farmers."
"This is the place (3/F, Nali Patio, 81 Sanlitun Bei Lu, Chaoyang District) where I learned to drink a real drink. Apothecary also plays the best music in the city and its kitchen serves delicious Creole bar food."
