THE LATEST IN LIFESTYLE FROM KNOLL, TOM DIXON AND CASE

Our edit of old and new favourites

Whether you’re decking out your new pad or looking to give a new spark to your old one, it’s important to create a home with pieces that will last and look on point for a lifetime. Here we present a few of our favourites — one with a long and proud history of modernist design, and two relative newcomers that have quickly become firm favourites.

Knoll*

Not many companies can claim to be among the truly great design brands — Knoll is one. The brand became known in the mid-20th century as a champion of modern American and European design; under the groundbreaking creative direction of Florence Knoll, some of the century’s top creative minds designed pieces for Knoll and had others produced by them. Our picks include the bench and low table designed by Florence herself, the all-time classic Barcelona chair by Mies van der Rohe and the Conference chair and Oval dining table by Finnish-American Eero Saarinen; those looking for a slightly more contemporary touch can see Italian designer Piero Lissoni’s careful attention to materiality, colour and volume in the Avio sofa system and Matrioska credenza. All of the company’s range is still proudly manufactured in the US and Italy.

Tom Dixon

The British designer launched his namesake brand in 2002, armed with an impressive background in welding salvaged steel into radical furniture. Dixon is a prolific designer, constantly experimenting with new techniques, production methods and materials across lighting, furniture and home accessories. We’re feeling particularly enchanted with the Swirl collection, a collection of functional, multidimensional sculptures that blur the line between art and design in bold colourways. But there’s plenty for lovers of the monochromatic — Dixon has updated his signature Tank glassware line in dramatic black, while his Brew coffee collection in stainless steel will complete any chic kitchen. The translucent Opal pendant light provides soft, sculptural illumination, while the whisk-like Spring fixture makes for a striking touch of shadow. Dixon’s signature rugs, cushions and throws complete the edit with a soft contrast.

Case*

Contemporary design at value is what Case does best, and we can’t get enough. For over a decade this London-founded brand has collaborated with an array of award-winning designers such as Robin Day, Shin Azumi and Nazanin Kamali to create furniture and homewares from dining and bedroom to to home office. We’re especially enamoured with Day’s modern classic 675 chair and the Celine desk, but the curvilinear sofas, innovative storage pieces and thoughtful kitchenware and decorative objects mean everyone can enjoy a slice of design at home.
