Style is a self-expression. A jacket or jersey can be a visual manifestation of where a person stands, incorporating one’s culture, creativity and identity into their day-to-day fashion.
New York-based fashion editor Nico Amarca has his eyes attuned to multiple facets of sub culture and channels that fascination into his work at Hypebeast. “I like how two creative forces are able to merge their respective identities into an entirely new design,” says Amarca who sports a bleach blond ‘boy-racer’ crop. He styles his look with D.TT.K’s neo sportswear designed by Kazuma Detto; Haculla’s deranged fringed graffiti pieces, 8-Bit’s retro pixel head sweats and Danshan’s absurdist abstract T-shirt.
Some of the Next New brands have collaborated with Lane Crawford to develop these exclusive capsules, infusing strong brand expression and design languages while incorporating their inspiration from street art. What is important when it comes to styling? “I always look for a concrete and well-edited design narrative that never sways from the brand's core values,” says Amarca.
What are the new expressions for this Summer? “Graphics and bold colours have returned in an interesting way,” says Amarca “Fanny packs, sandals and shorts, however, need to go.”
