Carmen Kass was the ultimate goddess wearing Gucci. Her figure was shown to perfection, in a long siren red gown with a train, covered up and only revealing skin when she turned around. This has to be my personal favourite Met dress of all time.

Lily et Cie by Rita Watnick gown with Alaïa belt

It’s unusual to see head-to-toe black that stands out at the Met. Mary Kate achieved this with a very special black dress, making a stunning impact and shone in this heavenly low cut feather dress cinched at the waist with an Alaïa belt. It was very her, a great balance of romantic and gothic – she didn’t follow the theme at all – just her own personal style codes.

Givenchy Haute Couture gown

Christina perfectly embraces the superhero theme in a Givenchy by Riccardo Tisci gown. A scarlet red satin bodysuit – how very “wonder woman“, totally genius, gorgeous and my second all-time favourite gown. I would love to wear this dress one day – I adore it.

Sienna Miller

Wearing Emilio Pucci dress

This dress was created especially for Sienna. It’s very her, with a boho-meets-polished effect. It was a clever choice of putting the dress into a dark navy took it to a standout level while keeping Sienna very much as the centrepiece.

Anna Dello Russo

Alexander McQueen suit

This was Anna Dello Russo’s first Met Ball, it was also mine - Lane Crawford was thrilled to be invited to this event. Anna chose a tailoring approach, which the McQueen brand is renowned for. We had such fun, I remember getting out of the car with Anna and being so overwhelmed with the celebrities and models on the red carpet stairs. I remember hearing Anna shouting after me to come and have photos taken together but I just couldn’t do it.

Givenchy Haute Couture gown

I have a few of these stray feathers – I too wore Givenchy that night and I happened to be walking behind Beyoncé and collected a few purple hand-dyed feathers that flew loose and up into the air in front of me like tiny exotic little birds. They went safely into my pocket, a very surreal moment for a surrealist Met Ball theme!

Givenchy tuxedo

A classic black tuxedo with a skinny lapel, Tisci went with the sartorial classic white shirt, bow tie and patent shoe.

Pharrell Williams

I was obsessed with his choice, a classic one-button black suit. I really adored this look, which he paired with a lace up patent shoe and a classic black bow tie. His white shirt had a slight twist with black buttons.

Jay Z

While we are all getting ready this year for the new Baz Lurhman film “The Great Gatsby”, Jay Z channelled it ahead of the game with a white tux jacket. Say no more – he owned this look and managed to stand out next to his wife Beyoncé.
