Renowned for her captivating digital prints, observers of Camille Walala’s work can’t help but feel positively inspired. With a global aesthetic that speaks universally, we talk to the London-based artist about her world of colour, print and the sense of wanderlust that radiates throughout her work.

What I love about travelling is exploring, getting lost in the city and trying all sorts of food. I use Instagram as a visual diary, and take photos of buildings, patterns, street art, street fashion colours combinations that I will use for inspiration.

My style is quite similar to my work: bright, bold and graphic and my closet looks like a rainbow as my clothes are grouped in colour. I love to dress up every single day of the week, as it's the first form of expression and creativity that I can start first thing in the morning.

I have been really influenced by the Memphis style from the 80s for a while now and I think it always come through my work. It's bold and playful, everything I love.

Tokyo is out of this world! The scale of the buildings, the architecture, the neon lights, the street fashion, the focus on flavours and textures in food – it opened my mind and expanded my creativity like no other.

Through my work I hope to make people smile. I just finished the biggest painting I have ever done in a children’s park in Melbourne that says “Living The Dream,” and a lot of people have been tagging me on Instagram to say “thank you” as it has brightened up their playground. It makes me so happy to have been able to do that.
