I THINK IN BLUE

HAVE A DRINK WITH J.CREW

J.Crew menswear focuses on the classics, the authentic and the timeless. Lead by Head Men’s Designer Frank Muytjens, J.Crew offers a considered edit that understands the need for quality as well as functionality in every man’s wardrobe.

Everything is handpicked and presented in a way that makes sense to men who want to look fashionable without feeling self-conscious. J.Crew Menswear is about lifestyle as much as about clothes. It's a philosophy that’s embraced in the J.Crew Menswear store in New York, known as the Liquor Store. For the first time outside of America, the Liquor store will transplant itself at Lane Crawford, giving customers a taste of the sophistication that defines J.Crew Menswear.

“It’s super exciting because this is the first time the Liquor Store will be on the road and having Lane Crawford as our first outpost in Asia is a dream come true!” says Muytjens.

THE MAIN MAN

“IT’S A VERY EXCITING TIME IN MENSWEAR RIGHT NOW BECAUSE GUYS ARE DEFINITELY LOOKING FOR QUALITY AND AUTHENTICITY,"

says the man credited with transforming J.Crew menswear. Frank Muytjens joined in 2008 after working at Ralph Lauren Polo for eight years. While imbuing J.Crew Menswear with a distinctly elegant European sentiment, Muytjens pays homage to American classics through his refined approach to design - often inspired by art, travels and photography. His take on menswear ensures the J.Crew gentleman always feels sophisticated through classic details, modern finishes and high quality fabrics. With his peppered hair, fitted Ludlow suit over chambray shirt and spectacles, Muytjens himself is the perfect representation of the J.Crew man.

AUTUMN
WINTER
2012

“I think in blue,” muses Muytjens.
J.Crew Men's Autumn/Winter collection, with its overall arching palette of blue, is a delightful exercise in restraint. Images of German photographer August Sander as well as cityscapes and gloomy, moody New York come to mind. Whether the spark came from the idea of indigo or French artist Yves Klein, statement separates such as tweed sports jackets or faded chambray shirts paint a striking picture. Although partially inspired by a vintage aesthetic, classic pieces such as duffer coats have a modernised shape and details. Cashmere and thick woolen knits are also prominently featured, either layered under a hooded coat or worn on its own.
