‘70s Flashback High waists, big coats, plaid shirts: the ‘70s rogue beckons on the style horizon.

We invited VOGUE.IT contributor Simone Monguzzi (@simone_monguzzi) to cast himself in the mould.

As a starter piece, he chose a big oversize coat in a noble tweed or cashmere wool that sweeps down to the mid-calf from players including Dries Van Noten and Calvin Klein. Looking for inspiration? The cult eccentric British film, ‘Withnail & I’ is always worth a re-run.

Then came the pants. Trousers and denims with voluminous proportions worn belted high on the waist with a plaid shirt over a turtleneck sweater looked the part. Corduroy, the ‘70s professorial favourite, is also worthy a reconciliation in cuffed trousers and sports jackets in moody, broody aristo colours such as terracotta, port and billiard green.

For accessories, lean to the eccentric edge with tonal silk socks, exotic leather belts, silk dinner scarves and a signet ring. The expression is one of autumnal languor.
