Military continues to resonate year in and year out, but this season, the trend has brought forth the newest of the moment colour, olive green. A natural evolution, the AW16 runways were awash with the season’s new earth-toned neutrals in saturated olive, khaki and terracotta hues.

Nowhere was this more evident than at 3.1 Phillip Lim where army green cargo pants with patchwork-velvet panels and oversized parkas, spoke of a rugged yet luxe aesthetic. Natasa Cagalj’s Helmut Lang-inspired collection at Ports 1961 also worked in a distinct olive green in cocooning silhouettes and languid lines; the dark khaki oversize trench coat cut with slits and ribbons, an undeniable hit.

Brown also makes a comeback with soft camels and rich copper tone while warm rust and cognac shades add depth and richness. Masters of minimalist dressing, The Row veered towards the lighter side of the earthy hued colour wheel with taupe, flesh-tones and nudes providing palette-cleansing shades in synch with their brand of tonal dressing.
