For Jiang, tea is so ingrained in the Chinese culture that it has come to provide her with major inspiration. As a champion of traditional Asian aesthetics, SHANG XIA places utmost importance on creative processes based on traditional Chinese craftsmanship, with a modern design ethos at its core when producing its teaware.

“Take the ‘Bridge’ tea set as an example. The inspiration is from Song Dynasty porcelain. But we have represented this timeless beauty with contemporary design and materials, weaving bamboo strands over fine porcelain containers. The perfect match of bamboo and porcelain has given it a unique touch of oriental culture and spirit of nature,” the designer says.
