Although Strathberry extolls its Scottish heritage, it was inspired by a trip to Spain…
“When my husband and I first met we always knew we wanted to build a brand together. Although we had a passion for beautiful goods, we only decided to work in the fashion industry when our travels around the artisanal region of Spain inspired us to work with their wonderful craftsmanship and skills to bring alive our own designs.”
Its signature metal bar is inspired by music…
“It’s inherited from the leather sheet music folios of musicians and performers. Both functional and elegant, it’s clearly and easily recognisable which was very important for us. I wanted people to easily identify a Strathberry bag from the beginning.”
It’s a family-run business - literally…
“Our four children have shared in the Strathberry journey. The business was originally set up from our home and they used to help us box and pack the orders each evening. They became so adept at constructing the boxes and gently folding tissue paper! When we got a dog she would also get involved, and occasionally cause mayhem!”
Their dream muse isn’t Scottish, or British for that matter…
“I would choose Michelle Obama. She is truly inspirational especially for her dedication and support of children.”
Their team is spoilt…
“We can see Edinburgh Castle from the window of our office building, which is a Georgian Townhouse in Edinburgh’s West End. We also get an organic fruit delivery at the start of every week and then finish the week with something naughtier like a breakfast roll run at the local Italian cafe. Strathberry is a team effort and we are so lucky to have a focused, loyal and dependable group around us.”
They have their eye on more than just bags…
“Next steps are pop-up stores and of course more silhouettes. We are also looking at Scottish cashmere.”
