Isa Tapia

New to Lane Crawford this season, Isa Tapia is footwear’s colourful new name to know. Originally from Puerto Rico, Tapia now calls New York home and before launching her eponymous line in 2011, had the privilege of working for Marc Jacobs and Oscar de la Renta.

Her shoes are bold, witty and have a unique point of view: “A lot of it has to do with understanding the fit and making my own patterns. I don’t sketch a shoe on a piece of paper and hand it over,” she says. “I draft and cut every style to the millimetre. It is crazy how important the slight curve of a line affects the way you look and feel in a shoe. I also love colour and really have fun with my work.”

We love her Spring Summer collection which is based on the idea of love: “It started out in a very literal way in the form of a heart and translated into more abstract ideas with colours and shapes, using the primary colours of red and blue to complement the great joys of love but also the duality of sadness that love can sometimes bring.”
