Second Nature
Established by husband-and-wife design team Agostina and Diana Moroso in 1952, Italian furniture brand Moroso take an artisanal approach to creating innovative pieces that are as stylish as they are functional. Under the direction of their daughter, Patrizia Moroso, the brand takes inspiration from various cultures, locations and the natural world to stunning effect. “My desire is to subvert the obvious by celebrating diversity in its form and its surface,” she says.

THE FJORD
The Fjord seating collection takes inspiration from the eponymous Nordic coastal inlets to create distinctive chairs that recall pieces of broken shell smoothed by the waves. Created by Spanish architect and designer Patricia Urquiola, the collection features sturdy steel frames topped with beautifully crafted moulds of plastic or flexible polyurethane foam.

“With its simplicity of form and customisable upholstery, the Fjord collection is designed to make the most of light-filled spaces.”

“Sleek and versatile, the round style features multiple tiers for compact storage.”

THE BYOBU
Created by Canadian-Japanese designer Nendo in 2012, the Byobu table features a novel twist on the traditional Japanese folding-screen concept. Available in a round configuration, the translucent glass-topped tables are supported by asymmetrical frames that fold like screens to create intriguing structural forms.

THE MASSAS
An acronym for “Moroso Asymmetric Sofa System Adorably Stitched”, M.a.s.s.a.s. is an ingenious modular seating range defined by its lack of hard edges. Designer Patricia Urquiola eschews rigid geometric order by fashioning outer shapes that appear separate from the inner framework, emphasised by bold stitching that outlines the contours.

“The various sofas, stools and armchairs offer a range of possibilities for any space, while removable covers add a practical touch.”

“Contemporary pieces with a traditional soul, the Nanook collection adds a touch of ice-cool design flair that is striking yet subtle.”

THE NANOOK
Taking its name from the groundbreaking 1922 nature documentary Nanook Of The North, the Nanook collection was created by Swiss designer Philippe Bestenheider and is inspired by elements of Inuit life. The chair, armchair and table feature hexagonal patterns inspired by the textures of snowflakes and animal hides.
