ORGANIC OBJETS

Perfectly imperfect interior accoutrements

Words by Bridget Barnett

With the chaos that has been 2020 thus far, the craving for real connection has swelled. Real connection, first and foremost, between one another, but also with the ground beneath us and the world beyond us. And, with most of us spending more time at home than ever before, we are finding ways to bring the outside in.

As a result, organic forms and materials for the home (a trend that was predicted for 2020) have amplified in importance.

It’s an interiors moment that feels authentic, calming and a little lived-in. Of course, natural materials play a key part — woods like oak and teak, and woven materials like rattan and seagrass. For the palette, it means nothing jarring — only straight-talking neutrals and pastels so pale they whisper across textiles. Silhouettes take an organic form, too – think soft edges and a stripped-back Scandinavian influence.

Not surprisingly, the concept has also managed to make its way into the fine jewellery world, translating in earthy accessories that are perfectly imperfect in shape.

Just like gentle fabrics, this is exactly what we want to be wearing — and surrounding ourselves with — right now.
