The holiday season is a time for long dinners and late night soirées with family and friends, in turn creating an abundance of photo opportunities, and for good reason; these are the moments you’ll want to remember.
Ensure your makeup looks flawless during snap-happy season by putting precautions in place to banish the number one makeup faux pas - ‘flashback’ - the dusty white cast that falls on your face caused by using the wrong foundation, concealer or powder.
When it comes to foundations and concealers, the easiest way to safely avoid flashback is to avoid products that have any sun block properties, especially easy at night, but trickier during the day. So, if you do choose a product with SPF, make sure it doesn’t include zinc oxide or titanium dioxide as both ingredients reflect sunrays in turn causing the dreaded flashback.
For setting powders, avoid light reflecting particles or high quantities of the ingredient silica, a micronised white powder that doesn’t always disappear when applied to dry skin. When these ingredients are mixed with flash photography, the effects can show up in the form of either a highly saturated complexion, in a completely mismatched shade from your body, or in white patches.
To combat this seasonal beauty faux pas, Lane Crawford has curated the ultimate edit of camera-friendly makeup that are all flashback free. Finally, to ensure all your bases are covered, we’ve asked makeup maestros – Hourglass founder Carsia Janes and international makeup artists Lisa Eldridge and Wendy Rowe – for tips on perfecting your skin for a photo-friendly finish.
