Some things are just better together. Be it familial, professional or romantic, discover which stylish soulmates we are most thankful for and why.
1. DIANA VREELAND AND RICHARD AVEDON
Who are they?
Vreeland was a fashion columnist at Harper’s Bazaar and editor-in-chief at American Vogue; Avedon was a fashion and portrait photographer. Both helped to define America’s image of style, beauty and culture during their glory days.
Why we love them?
Their adorable meet-cute. Vreeland mistakenly called Avedon “Aberdeen”, to which he decided he couldn’t work with her since she couldn’t get his name right. They went on to work together for 40 years.
2. MARY-KATE AND ASHLEY OLSEN
3. INEZ VAN LAMSWEERDE AND VINOODH MATADIN
Who are they?
The Dutch fashion photographer duo whose list of clients reads like a call sheet for the most talked about designers, publications and musicians in the world – think Vogue, Virgil Abloh and Kayne West.
Why we love them?
For pioneering a digital approach to fashion photography that challenges gender norms.
4. RICK OWENS AND MICHÈLE LAMY
Who are they?
An American-born, Paris-based fashion designer best known for his gothic sportswear aesthetic, and his wife – a creative partner, muse and fashionista in her own right.
Why we love them?
For their love affair which spans 20 years and includes countless creative collaborations, including that of protégé Gareth Pugh. We also love their humour – Lamy likens their business partnership to “asking a gypsy to organise a war with a fascist.”
