Lanvin

As the oldest French couture house, founded by Jeanne Lanvin in 1889, Lanvin embodies elegant style and refined luxury. An aficionado of culture, the imaginative designer indulged in adventurous travels, artistic tradition and philosophical musings. Learning millinery as a teenager before honing her dressmaking skills, Lanvin accrued exceptional repute amongst the wealthy elite after making charming pleated dresses trimmed with English embroidery. Credited for designing the first “flapper dresses” of the 1920s, Lanvin also created beautiful evening dresses with long, clean lines inspired by the Art Deco movement. Her luxurious style and sumptuous designs — exhibited in women’s and men’s collections, plus accessories and fragrance divisions — attracted an army of famous followers, including Marlene Dietrich and Jean Cocteau. Lanvin died in 1946 and her daughter took over the business. Since 2001, the house of Lanvin has been an independent company under the creative directorship of Alber Elbaz for womenswear and Lucas Ossendrijver for menswear. They have both received critical acclaim for their elegant interpretations of Lanvin’s original aesthetic of tailored refinement and masterful artistry.
