The Trend Report SS16
Spring Summer 2016 delivers a fresh dose of new looks that will seamlessly work into your wardrobe. Here are the top three trends that set the tone of the season ahead.
LA Vibes
Fashion’s nostalgia with the Nineties is impossible to ignore. This season, the era’s Californian surf and skate culture, gets a sophisticated, grown-up spin for the grunge generation. Saint Laurent’s Hedi Slimane channeled Kurt Cobain in a West Coast-influenced collection of granddad cardigans, palm tree prints and laid back checked shirts that feel fresh and utterly ‘now’.
Cross Cultural
This season it’s time to broaden your cultural horizons as designers experimented with distinctive global aesthetics, from Eastern motifs, to Baja stripes and Argentinian symbolism. Chitose Abe at sacai worked her signature hybrid magic, taking inspiration from the iconic 80’s New York disco, Paradise Garage in the birth of a mash-up of Peruvian-inspired patterns and plaid jackets that had audiences entranced.
Denim
As the fabric of the moment denim is always a guarantee on the catwalks and this season proved no different, with many labels, both established and emerging using jeanswear in new and exciting ways for the season ahead. The one thing that they all share? Denim that looks better as you wear it.
