Flights of Fantasy

In the spirit of “Fantasia”, Lane Crawford tasked four global designers to create a fantasy dress of epic proportions. From the ultimate black dress to the most glamorous bejewelled gown, these works of art go beyond the imagination to bring the magic of the season alive.

Ms Min

Lane Crawford gave Ms Min the challenge of designing the “Ultimate Black Dress”. A rising star in China’s fashion design scene and one of three designers under our “Created in China” programme, in which we nurture and champion new and emerging talent from the region, Liu Min’s alluring femininity is showcased in this exquisitely simple yet ornate dress.

Liu Min took her inspiration from the Greek myth of Apollo and Daphne, which sees the nymph Daphne transformed into a tree to escape the rapture of Apollo, after being enchanted by another god’s magic arrow.

This larger than life dress is intricately crafted with embroidered plum and gold flowers on a heavy double-weave silk base and sits on a sculpture by Jiang Sheng of designer Liu Min herself. Discover the dress at Lane Crawford ifc mall.

Alice & Olivia

In creating this “Ultimate Feathered Dress”, Stacey Bendet of Alice + Olivia took inspiration from the Cubist movement and applied it to the signature Alice + Olivia full-skirted silhouette. Using a multitude of delicate feathers in all shades and sizes, Bendet has made a bold statement with her feathered creation.

The underpinning of the dress features a quote from Stacey Bendet inspired by a vision of the mannequin spinning on a life-size music box.

Delpozo

Under the creative direction of Josep Font, Madrid-based Delpozo is the perfect label to capture the essence of the “Ultimate Party Dress”. Known for delivering “prêt-à-couture” collections, Font’s striking dresses combine the most delicate embellishment with unexpected silhouettes that transport the wearer to another world. Its purple hue shines with brilliance as it is literally illuminated from within with a bright light concealed within its fine folds.

The statement-making, hand-crafted knitted gown is two metres long and sits atop a transparent crinoline structure that gives it its shape and volume.

Tiago Valente

As part of Lane Crawford’s PLATFORM initiative to help grow and nurture tomorrow’s talent, we asked emerging Shanghai-based designer Tiago Valente to create the “Ultimate Bejewelled Gown”. With a diverse background in the performing arts and journalism, the Spanish artist frequently explores sociological issues through his work. The theatrical magic in his creative universe is expressed through a variety of mediums from wood to textiles to paper to recycled materials.

Valente looked to capture the emotion and sense of mystery found in the magical tales of the One Thousand and One Nights. Inspired by a journey through the mysterious Indian bazaars, his visionary gown features beautiful layers of crystals and stones hidden under an intricate net of flying wooden structures. Multiple and delicate flying wooden structures are combined with mirrored materials to create new and unexpected textures. From thousands of treated wood chips and hand-embroidered surfaces, this is a dress that adds another dimension to luxury couture.
