Fantasy Knits

In celebration of the cosy spirit of the holidays, we collaborated with a series of emerging talents to create fantastically oversized knitwear sculptures. This season, lose yourself in any of our Lane Crawford stores amid a magical world of breathtaking knitted creativity.

Yang Du

After completing both a Bachelors and Masters degree in Fashion Design at Central Saint Martins, Chinese-born Yang Du launched her own line in 2009. With “Fantasia” in the air this season, Du has created a series of playful knitwear lion-head hats exclusively for Lane Crawford. We chat to this emerging talent about the collaboration.

The Interview

LC: Where do you find inspiration for your prints?

YD: I pick up inspiration from everywhere. It’s all about the details of everyday life; the places I go, the people I meet, and the stories I share all become the characters of a big canvas.

LC: What was the creative process in the creation of the animal heads?

YD: After selecting the colour and yarn for the hats, the base was hand-knitted before we proceeded to stuff the head and add details. The most difficult part was definitely the mane.

LC: What does “Fantasia” mean to you?

YD: Imaginative, colourful and fun.

LC: Any words of advice for emerging creatives?

YD: Always be yourself.

Pop Rocks

“In reality, there are many limitations shaping our values and behaviours.  Very often, we feel restricted and confined. Yet there is one thing completely belonging to ourselves – our mind, our imagination. Free your mind! Let the imaginative power explode!”

Haze Ng, Victor Chu, Nicole Chung

Midnight Camouflage

“The sweater is inspired by a snow-covered woodland during Christmas time. The fringe detail resembles pine trees capped in snow, while the different shades of colour mimics the sun shining over the woodland.”

Joyce Nga, Ellen Wong, Selah Wong

Lip Service

“When we think of Christmas, we think of having a great time with people around us. We gather with friends, family and other loved ones to celebrate the occasion. These lips resemble kisses and represent all the love from those around us.”

Koleman Chan, Lois Li, Grayer Tsang

Winter Whiteout

“The inspiration is from the trails of a meteor shower. The gold fringe symbolises falling stars from the sky. Sometimes, they come swiftly and then disappear before you know it – a reminder to capture and seize the best moments.”

Haze Ng, Bonnie Wong, Kitty Wong, Terry Yuen
