9 to 5 Beauty

A smart beauty edit can make the difference between stepping out of the office looking as flawless as when you arrived, and looking like a bedraggled version of your morning self. The secret is in keeping all makeup you are wearing firmly in place throughout the day. With these simple steps, you’ll keep your polish all day long.

Morning Makeup

This is where all the hard work needs to go. Put aside at least 20 minutes and start with a deep cleanse, then massage the face to get the circulation going. Apply your skincare one step at a time, ensuring each layer has time to sink in properly.

Start with a primer – your secret weapon against makeup slip – then apply your foundation. Finish with fixing powder that will keep your base in place all day long. Tidy brows with a pencil and apply liquid liner for an instant eye-opening effect. For a flush of colour, opt for a warm blusher on the cheeks.

Lunch time Fix

If you’ve applied your makeup properly at the beginning of the day, the foundations of your look should remain in place. Inject a little extra hydration with a facial mist to refresh your makeup and give your skin a much-needed afternoon pick-me-up (keep this on your desk or in your handbag). Your lips will need a bit of extra balm to make sure you don’t have any dryness from air conditioning. Touch up lip colours and blot any extra shine from your T-zone.

After-Work Touch up

If you’re heading straight out after work, shift your makeup focus to your eyes. Touch up the under-eye area with a brightening concealer to even out the skintone. Start with a kohl liner around the eyes and, if you’re partial to a liquid liner, keep a good eyeshadow palette handy. Finish with a dash of lip colour for an instant hit of glamour.

Evening Looks

Keep a bottle of cleansing water and cotton pads handy to refresh and remove the day’s makeup. Start with a tinted moisturiser rather than a full-coverage foundation, as the softer lighting in restaurants and bars will be kinder to the complexion. Embrace a more dramatic look now, as there’s no need for the routine office look. Take a sultry slate pigment for the eyelids and be bold with the application. Coat your lashes with mascara, then really open up the eyes with an eyelash curler.
