The World of Ms Min
Known for her elegant feminine aesthetic, designer Liu Min is one of China’s rising fashion stars. Having launched her label, Ms Min, just four years ago, her profile has grown around the world and continues to go from strength to strength. After graduating from the renowned London College of Fashion in 2007, followed by a stint working with design duo Viktor & Rolf in their atelier in Amsterdam, Min returned to China, having been inspired by the creative renaissance of the local fashion industry. Her designs convey a romantic simplicity with a modern edge that appeals to women across the globe.
“Luxury is something that is beautiful inside and out, not just for others to see but for you to cherish in private.” This is a quote from the book Luxury Alchemist and perfectly sums up my feelings. Luxury takes time and luxury is time – time with family, time to cook, time to travel and time to read.
London is a great source of inspiration to me. It’s a city with an old soul and young spirit, full of history yet at the same time, it’s so dynamic. In America, Los Angeles’ mid-century charm is unbeatable and L.A. smells like fresh air and freedom. In Asia, I am drawn to Kyoto for its culture and beautifully treasured and maintained architecture. But Hong Kong is the best city in the world for a taste of both the East and the West.
What motivates me in life? Love, passion, progress, achievement and the realisation that I can do whatever I put my mind to, whether it is big or small.
The vision for this season’s collection is a rush of colourful floral graphics. It’s a fresh and feminine take on winter’s more traditional sombre dressing, mixed with architectural black. I looked at fusing movement and structure. Luxurious double-faced cashmere plays a big role, with an emphasis on the lightweight and light-hearted.
My studio has a family vibe. We are situated on a tree-lined street, so I’m constantly aware of nature around me.
