Having worked with some of the most glamorous A-list celebrities including Zhang Ziyi and Maggie Q, beauty blogger Kevin Laoshi gives us the insider scoop on the looks that he loves, skincare and makeup recommendations and his favourite Lane Crawford services.
LC : What inspires your work?
KL : After coming across thousands of women through my work as a VJ stylist, I found out that beauty is so different for everyone. I decided to explore the unique beauty in every woman and encourage each to appreciate their own charm instead of copying others.
LC : What are the four items that every woman should not be without?
KL : A moisturising foundation, mascara, eyeliner and lipstick should are indispensable pieces in your daily beauty arsenal. Getting a perfect complexion is the most important foundation before you even think about wearing any seasonal trends.
LC : Whose look inspires you?
KL : Chanel’s fall runway makeup really inspired me. Mr. Lagerfeld took high-end products and combined them with daily life. The eye makeup was very interesting, using a rich gold foundation to elongate the eyes, while the fuschia and dark green were spectacular.
LC : What’s your ultimate party look?
KL : Many people cannot help but over apply their party makeup, but it is important to maintain singular emphasis. For example, if you want to put on a show-stopping red lipstick, the foundation should not be too white, highlight instead the
area below the eye and the C-area around the eye, so that when taking pictures the makeup does not look too mask-like.
I think bright colours – especially bold orange shades – are the trend of this season.
LC : What your secret tip to flawless skin in hotter months?
KL : During the summer, a problem that arises is that an excess of oil can clog the pores. I recommend cleansing waters on cotton wool to be applied over the T-zone.
LC : Which is your favourite Lane Crawford service and why?
