Whether you’re running around the city or chilling out with the boys, we’ve got your downtime wardrobe covered. Your casual wear should look good yet relaxed – after all, weekends were made for letting go. Adrian Ward-Rees, Lane Crawford Director of Menswear, discusses how to master the more leisurely look of style.
A weekend with the guys requires “a wardrobe ready for anything, from a great night out to sports events or live music,” says Adrian. For that you’ll need the perfect denim jeans - unwashed and simple indigo, blacks and greys work best - and a versatile shirt that you can dress up or down. Layering pieces like a cardigan and polo shirts will arm you for wherever the weekend takes you.
There’s nothing more refreshing than a weekend away with your other half. “You need to feel relaxed, comfortable but effortlessly chic – remember, you’re there to be romantic and that means making your partner feel proud to be with you,” says Adrian. Look for smart but comfortable pieces like vintage washed shorts or a pair of selvedge denim and short-sleeve shirts. A deconstructed blazer or a cashmere pullover is also great for unpredictable vacation weather.
If you’re the guy that maximises every minute of the weekend, going from brunch to a movie to your favourite bar followed by a concert, then this one’s for you. “This is where the true art of dressing comes into play – you want to be the person other people want to look like,” explains Adrian. For that, proportion is key. An oversized T-shirt, varsity jacket with skinny jeans and a pair of luxe sneakers will take you through an entire day of non-stop action.
