WOMEN’S CONTEMPORARY BRAND HIGHLIGHTS

Trendsetters and stylists love the contemporary edge and easy-chic style of Haute Hippie, Alice + Olivia, rag & bone and Acne. Find out who’s behind these hit brands…

ACNE: CULT HIT

Established in Stockholm in 1996 as a creative collective, Acne quickly ascended up the “it” brand ladder, creating effortlessly stylish pieces for men and women as well as evolving into a cool lifestyle label and media conglomerate. The first full Acne collection was presented in 1998, setting the brand’s signature style of subtle luxury and understated items. Founder and creative director Jonny Johansson says Acne’s approach to fashion believes that each piece should shape individual style. For Spring/Summer 2010, the Acne woman is free-spirited and creative, exploring all types of self-expression, while the Acne man travels to a warm, sundrenched India.

ALICE + OLIVIA: RETRO INSPIRED

The alice + olivia collection was launched by New Yorker Stacey Bendet in 2002 — the culmination of years of her trying to find the pair of perfect pants with an ultra-flattering fit and stylish retro vibe. With Bendet’s quirky sensibility and urban edge, alice + olivia is sophisticated and youthful, boasting easy-to-wear sleek and chic pieces. Full of sexuality, intelligence and charm, the Spring/Summer 2010 collection of city dresses, embellished tops and structured jackets was inspired by “The Power of The Female.”

HAUTE HIPPIE: BOHO-LUXE STYLE

American designer Trish Wescoat Pound launched her fun, chic clothing line, Haute Hippie, in 2008, after working at Laundry, Michael Kors and Theory. Loved for its easy-glam city-girl vibe, the label combines couture finishes with intricate craftsmanship to create remarkable standout pieces. From embellished tanks to sequined tunics, feathered skirts, silk jumpsuits and flirty, flashy dresses, the brand’s sophisticated, soulful pieces can easily transition from day to night. Add effortless glitz and glamour to your wardrobe — without any attitude — with Haute Hippie.
