Not two rooms are the same at this boutique hotel housed in a fully renovated townhouse from 1910 on the eastern side of the Vistula river. Named after its address, literally “steel street”, the Stalowa52 Aparthotel combines comfort with the authentic feel of Warsaw’s Praga neighbourhood, with its gritty pre-war buildings and revived post-industrial spaces. The nineteen spacious rooms, many with wooden floorboards and exposed bricks, blend vintage furniture with modern pieces, with lighting adding character. Rather than being numbered, each has a name reflecting its character. “Some regular guests have their favourite room that they ask for every time and are disappointed if it is already taken,” says Magdalena Walenczak-Allain, who co-founded the hotel in 2012. On the ground floor the ArtBistro restaurant, housed in an airy conservatory, serves French-inspired cuisine with an emphasis on ingredients, also hosting business and family events. In a district almost devoid of hotels, Stalowa52 provides a cosy base for exploring this less-explored part of Warsaw, home to an eccentric range of bars, a sandy beach and a growing range of art and design spaces. At the same time, the hotel remains within comfortable reach of the city centre, which can now be reached by the metro line under the river.
