A street style photographer’s dream thanks to her bold aesthetic, Shanghai based fashion stylist and consultant Leaf Greener takes a refined approach when it comes to her evening beauty look.
While in Hong Kong to attend the amfAR charity gala as a special guest of Lane Crawford, Greener revealed her beauty secrets to achieving a picture perfect look for glamorous events.
“I keep it really simple and tend to get ready by myself. Even for red carpet events, I’ll still do my own hair and makeup 90% of the time. I start by showering and then I’ll usually put on a facemask, ideally one from SK-II, before starting on hair and makeup. While I’m getting ready, I’ll drink champagne – I love it.”
“I love a bright lip for evening. My favourite are NARS satin lip pencils as they have amazing shades and are easy to apply. Tom Ford also do a great selection of coloured lipsticks. I stick to using bright makeup on my lips only; the colourful eyeshadow trend is bit eighties for me. For my eyes, I always wear black eyeliner – my favourite is from Estée Lauder – and my custom-made black fake eyelashes; I don’t tend to use mascara or eyeshadow as I find it hard to apply.”
“My go-to daytime hair style is normally down and straight, so for evening occasions I usually go for an up style. My hair is naturally straight so I don’t need to use any straightening tools, I just blow dry and – depending on the cut of the dress or my accessories – I’ll either go for a high or low ponytail. Sometimes I’ll mix it up by adding a braid into the ponytail but it’s always finished with straight bangs.”
“I always keep my nails filed very short, even for red carpet events. I went through a stage of always wearing the same nail polish colour; I wore neon green for 18 months, and then a shimmery blue polish for 12 months. Now, I'm going through a stage of picking a lot of reds and oranges. I prefer to stick to wearing one polish colour at a time, and tend to avoid nail art.”
