Liu Min, the designer behind Ms Min, has been a part of the Lane Crawford ‘Created in China’ family since 2013. In just three years, the label has grown from an emerging start-up brand to being shortlisted as a semi-finalist in the LVMH Prize Fund 2016.
“Time has flown so quickly since Lane Crawford pushed me forward. With the global fashion calendar and through the process of designing and delivering each collection, I’ve been able to find my voice,” reminisces Min. The Chinese fashion landscape has also shifted as each year sees an increasing number of Chinese fashion designers being embraced and celebrated on a global stage.
Fashion too has changed, as women are looking for pieces that stand the test of time and with this view, Ms Min has created a capsule collection of coats, based on the label’s best-selling silhouettes, exclusively for Lane Crawford.
“I think a lot about ‘timelessness’ in my work. It speaks to the length of time you can wear a piece and the idea of ‘season-less’ speaks to the ever-changing temperature. Especially when you travel, you can travel through three different seasons in just one trip,” says the designer. This philosophy has extended through to the coat capsule, which features a variety of shapes, weights and proportions.
“A good coat is like a soup noodle for me. It wraps around you, it warms your body and soul and protects you from the wind and cold. A good coat can keep you company for many years.”
Case in point: last holiday season, Min’s entire extended family - part of her family is Western and the other half Chinese - celebrated Christmas under the warm Thailand sun with a lot of laughter and love. “Every Christmas is different and special in its own way. This year, we will have a Xiamen Christmas!”
