“I have what could be considered the early stages of an art collection - so it’s something I look forward to building up over the years to come,” shares Klingberg. “I travel a lot in general, not only for Trunk Clothiers, so lots of the pieces of art I’ve picked up over the years come from visiting galleries in cities across the world. I have various pieces by Gavin Hurley from Auckland, David Willen from Zurich, David Shrigley from London and Ryu Itadani in Tokyo. I just bought a photograph of the Gotthard tunnel by David Willen and love it! It will go into our new Trunk Clothiers store in Zurich.”
When it comes to building an art collection, Klingberg advice is love first, variety second. “I would suggest focusing on art that you like and then try to make sure you have a nice mix of paintings, photographs and objects, pieces of different sizes, young and relatively unknown artists combined with more well-known ones, different moods and art from different parts of the world. The collection should reflect who you are as a person. In your home, only display the pieces that brings you happiness and let go of pieces that you’re holding on to for the wrong reason - or put them in storage.”
