Walter Steiger

It was the senior Walter Steiger who established the company in 1932 as an exclusive shoe atelier. And it was his son who turned it into a world-famous brand in 1974, when the first boutique opened in Paris and later followed by Milan, London and New York. Collaborations included some of fashion’s most legendary designers, such as Azzedine Alaïa, Calvin Klein, Karl Lagerfeld, Kenzo, Nina Ricci, Oscar de la Renta and Sonia Rykiel.
A significant influence in the evolution of modern footwear, Walter Steiger shoes are characterised by minimal design, a traditional craft knowledge and the exclusive use of high-quality materials. Over the years, the brand has produced many styles that are now considered classics. Innovation has always been essential to their design and includes memorable highlights such as fluorescent leather, transparent plastic and the invention of the first high-heeled riding boots. This credo exists today as the family’s third generation experiments with fresh collaborations involving some of the most talented emerging designers in Paris and New York.
