Created by Atlanta-based Sara Blakely, Spanx specializes in high-end body-shapers for women who want to sculpt the perfect form. Credited for reintroducing girdling to the masses, Blakely’s initial concept was born in 1998 when she cut the feet off of her pantyhose to mould her fit in a pair of white pants. The result was comfort, no lines, and a hugging tight shape that looked spectacular. After patenting her invention and developing her collection of body-slimming pantyhose, Spanx made it onto Oprah Winfrey’s “Favourite Things” list of 2000 — and, soon enough, scores of women across Manhattan declared it a coveted tummy-flab “muffin top” eliminator. Spanx creations have now found certified success all over the world, with celebrities like Gwenyth Paltrow, Jessica Alba and Kim Kardashian swearing by them. Even Madonna has put in an order for a full bodysuit made of the comfortable fabric for a concert outfit.
