Onitsuka Tiger is a youthful, sporty Japanese shoe brand started in 1949 by Kihachiro Onitsuka. Created in tandem with the rise of basketball amongst Japanese students, Onitsuka researched a Kobe high school team before launching Onitsuka Tiger’s first shoe. After much consideration, Onitsuka developed the octopus-tentacle-inspired Suction Cup Sole, which provided for optimum floor grip and movement, and subsequently gave birth to the long-distance Magicrunner shoe with breathable holes, Runspark track shoes and Limber leather shoes. In 1960, Japan’s sporting teams proudly wore Onitsuka Tiger at the Rome Olympic Games. Today, each trademark shoe bears the purposeful Mexico line stripes and are highly coveted for their practical utility and trend-defying flair.
