MBT, short for Masai Barefoot Technology, has become an instant hit since it was born in 1996. Channeling the agility of the Masai people in Kenya, who walk barefoot on natural terrain, the creators behind MBT wanted to mimic walking on soft, earth — “natural instability” — and not the rigid, concrete surface of the today’s cosmopolitan cities. The curved soles of MBT house patent Masai sensors, which force the wearer to create balanced stability by engaging muscles in a rolling movement that improves both posture and balance. The creators behind MBT have pledged to eliminate the use of harmful substances in the production of their shoes, that come wrapped in eco-friendly Micro-Pack patches and recyclable cardboard.
