As a former fashion writer for Vogue, New Yorker Aimee Cho discovered that, while writing about the five fashion basics of the modern wardrobe, there were many fashionable options for the first four items — T-shirts, jeans, cashmere knits and tailored suits — yet the iconic trench coat was left out in the cold. So, in 2006, she launched Gryphon with the objective of creating affordable trench coats that would be practical and protective, yet boast cheerful fashionable edge throughout the year. With the ever-ready trench coat re-imagined and recreated by playing with its fit and form, Gryphon’s designs feature a large belt buckle to give it standout edge. The brand has also since expanded into designing other types of ready-to-wear true to its nature: practical and weather-appropriate, unexpected and fusing eclectic styles such as rocker chic with romantic ideals.
