The mantra of enigmatic designer Diane von Furstenberg is: “Feel like a women, wear a dress.” And, as millions of women can attest, she’s absolutely correct. Armed with a suitcase of her jersey wrap dresses, she first arrived in New York from Belgium in 1972. By 1976, five million DVF wrap dresses had been sold, becoming an astounding fashion hit that represented womanly confidence and female freedom. After more than a decade-long hiatus and a brief stint in Paris, von Furstenberg re-emerged on the New York fashion scene in 1997 to fabulously re-launch her pioneering dress – in the most bold, coveted prints – and opened her DVF Studio. In 2005, von Furstenberg was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Council of Fashion Designers of America.
