Designer Overview: Praised for his genius originality and unique understanding of the sensuality of women, Roland Mouret’s outstanding talent is his self-taught technique of crafting fitted dresses from a simple square of fabric — a technical feat that requires draping mastery. Celebrating the female form in tailored, seductive silhouettes, he presented his first collection during London Fashion Week in 1998, where 15 one-off pieces were handmade without patterns and constructed by skilful draping, meticulous folding, and held together with pins and stud fasteners. Since his critically acclaimed debut, Mouret became highly respected in the industry as a reputed artistic director, model and stylist. In 2006, his tailored “Galaxy” creation became a Hollywood red-carpet hit and was every woman’s dream dress. After a short break before signing with Simon Fuller’s 19 Entertainment company, the Frenchman re-emerged in 2007, presenting his new RM satellite collection in Paris during Haute Couture. Mouret’s signature cinched silhouettes, elegant couture finishes and immaculately sensual cuts have seduced many top A-listers, including Cameron Diaz, Claudia Schiffer, Heidi Klum, Victoria Beckham and Lucy Liu. “I push boundaries for women who want to be different,” he says.

This Season: Roland Mouret’s Spring/Summer 2010 collection finds inspiration from North Africa, delivering a sexy, modern, utilitarian style. Key pieces are body-con dresses with a power-mesh base and multi-functional creations.
