Designer Overview: rag & bone was founded in 2002 by Marcus Wainwright and David Neville — because they couldn’t buy a simple pair of jeans that they wanted. With no formal fashion training, the earnest duo headed to Kentucky to learn how to make a pair from traditional craftsmen, and discovered first-hand how to appreciate quality, authenticity and attention to detail. From there, they declared that rag & bone would create staple items and remarkable pieces that they and their friends could easily wear every day. Since debuting with menswear in 2003 and womenswear in 2004, rag & bone has amassed a devoted following for its understated “modern classic” aesthetic. Producing only in factories that still make clothes the old-fashioned way, the brand has mastered a penchant for adding a fresh twist to the traditional sophistication found in British tailoring and bespoke detailing.
This Season: The new season sees rag & bone hark back to its original design roots. Uncomplicated pieces with a simple, casual fashion approach provide unexpected joy. The “English, military-school heritage mixed with a utilitarian, made-in-America ethos” is clearly visible and instantly desirable.
