Designer Overview: J BRAND was launched in 2005 by denim veteran Jeff Rudes and stylist Susie Crippen. The duo wanted to create a classic, sophisticated women’s jean with more emphasis on fit — and less attention to excess hardware or embellishments. Using perfect-fit cuts, quality stitching details and classic dark washes, they created a hot denim range that boasted sexiness and style. “It’s about a woman looking beautiful in her jeans,” Crippen explains, “not the jeans drawing attention to her.” In fact, J BRAND’s original skinny straight-leg jeans became an A-lister hit — worn by Cameron Diaz, Kate Bosworth, Kate Moss and Katie Holmes — and became the first American-made premium denim label to drive this ubiquitous fashion trend that’s still seen today.
