RIMOWA
Designer Overview: Guided for over a century by its “handcraft meets high tech” principle, Germany’s oldest and leading luggage brand Rimowa has become an instantly recognisable icon of luxury travel. The first Rimowa piece was produced in wood in 1898 by the Paul Morszeck luggage factory, boasting lightweight design, high quality and perfect workmanship. In the 1930s, material sourced from the aviation industry was given to the company and the founder’s son, Richard Morszeck instantly developed a fascination for aircraft aluminium. His idea finally was realised in 1937, when the first trunk made of lightweight metal was unveiled, signifying a design innovation that would re-shape the world of luxury luggage. In 1950, Rimowa built the first grooved-surface suitcase made from structural aluminium, and by 1976, with the third-generation Dieter Morszeck at the company helm, the brand launched its waterproof camera and equipment range. Today, Rimowa products still boast innovation and ingenuity, beautifully shaped from aircraft aluminium and the practically indestructible plastic, polycarbonate. True to its slogan, “Every Case Tells a Story,” Rimowa has certainly proved its prestigious status as the most reliable travel companion ever.
