CLOSED
Designer Overview: Hamburg’s sophisticated casual-wear label Closed represents a sleek,
minimalist, functional side of German fashion. Offering simple,
comfortable, wearable designs, its classic pieces feature a lot of
attention and an innovative twist, either in material, technique or cut.
Closed was originally founded in Italy in 1978, and became popular for
its legendary Pedal Pusher jeans style and pioneering the denim
stonewash method. In the 1980s, the three partners of Gordon Giers, Hans
Redlefsen and Til Nadler took over the company, eventually relocating
the headquarters to its stunning current Hamburg location in 2006.
Since, Closed has released new renditions of its heritage designs,
including the “New Chino Spirit” and the infamous “X Pocket” — the
result of the 1980 search for the perfect pant, which was made of 27
pieces of material instead of the standard 16, and was inspired by the
German postal uniform at the time. The brand has also made headlines for
developing the world’s first vending machine for jeans as well as the
limited-edition Closed city bicycle.
This Season:
The Closed collection for Spring/Summer 2010 takes on super basic,
masculine ideas for classic menswear pieces. Highlights include the
all-time favourite piqué cotton polo shirts, chambray workwear, cut-off
denim shorts, cotton chino pants, colourful check shirts and slim-fit
blazers.
