OPENING CEREMONY
Designer Overview: Inspired by the foundation of the modern-day Olympics — where the Greek sporting event was transformed into a roaming international business venture in 1896 — Opening Ceremony was established in 2002 as a global fashion and lifestyle entity that switches nations of celebrated designers yearly. Launched in New York by Carol Lim and Humberto Leon, with the idea of bringing their love of travel and fashion to a concept boutique and leading showroom, Opening Ceremony has since branched out with stores in Los Angeles and Tokyo, as well as its own self-branded lines of ready-to-wear fashion for men and women, plus footwear. Championing high fashion with avant-garde sentiment and creative smarts, Opening Ceremony is revered for its impeccable taste, edgy style and daring attitude. Its collaborative partners — from the über-cool icon of quirky actress Chloé Sevigny to the brilliant inventiveness of director Spike Jonze, and the cutesiness of iconic Japanese toymaker, Sanrio — perfectly represents the eclectic, pioneering individualism of Opening Ceremony.
This Season: This season, Opening Ceremony takes a trip to southern Asia, finding inspiration in Hindu holidays, British military uniforms and the vibrant colour palette of India.
