Designer Overview: Inspired by a mix of uptown with downtown, masculine and feminine, casual and dressy, Elizabeth and James is a high-end contemporary womenswear line launched in 2007 by young American starlets and fashion darlings, Ashley Olsen and Mary-Kate Olsen. With new product groupings hitting the stores almost monthly, the brand targets the young, edgy and fashion-savvy who like incorporating quirkiness with inventiveness into their individual ever-changing style. Named after the pair’s younger siblings, each collection includes a wide-range of fun, funky pieces — from outerwear to blazers, pants, shorts, skirts, dresses, tees and sweaters — that always delightfully feature an element of surprise and bear timeless wearability. No doubt, part of the allure of Elizabeth and James is the street-chic, eclectic aesthetic that echoes the ultra-cool fashionable ways of its über-stylish founders. This Season: For Spring/Summer 2010, Elizabeth and James heads to downtown New York in the 1980s, offering a cohesive collection of luxe leather, delicate silks, sexy mesh and soft cotton to proudly honour a grungy-glam look.
