ACNE
Designer Overview: Acne, an acronym for “Ambition to Create Novel Expressions,” first came
under the fashion spotlight as a super-cool denim brand — that famously
created 100 pairs of unisex jeans and rather impressively launched a
couture-denim collaboration with Lanvin. Established in Stockholm in
1996 as a creative collective, Acne quickly ascended up the “it” brand
ladder, creating effortlessly stylish pieces for men and women as well
as evolving into a cool lifestyle label and media conglomerate. The
first full Acne collection was presented in 1998 — complete with
slim-fitting, androgynous and tailored masterpieces — setting the
brand’s signature style of subtle luxury and understated items. With the
design process directed by founder and creative director Jonny
Johansson, Acne’s approach to fashion believes that, while every
collection follows a themed concept, each piece can still be worn
separately and easily mixed with other brands to shape an individual
style.
This Season: For Spring/Summer 2010, the Acne woman is free-spirited and creative,
exploring all types of self-expression in her desire to be performance
artist. She dresses the part in washed vintage, oversized cotton
overcoats, leather jackets and chunky knits. The Acne man travels to a
warm, sundrenched India, picking up pieces for his wardrobe such as
baggy holiday pants, ethnic inspired waistcoats and colourful long
shirts.
